SD.Norma Jean Melstad, 87 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota died Friday, November 4, 2016 at Southridge Nursing Home.Norma Jean Melstad was born on July 29, 1929 to Henry and Lorena (Babe) (Morgan) Meyer at Wessington, SD. She attended grade school and graduated from high school in Hetland, SD. On June 27, 1948 she married Howard John Melstad in Badger, SD. They moved to Kansas City where Howard attended watch making school. Following Howard's schooling they moved to Orange City, IA until they bought a jewelry store in Lake Preston, SD. Norma was a homemaker and raised four sons. While in Lake Preston she taught Sunday school. She worked at the Clay County Courthouse for ten years after they bought a jewelry store in Vermillion, SD. Norma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 263 in Hetland and a member of the Eagles in Vermillion. Norma enjoyed dancing, playing cards, knitting, spending time with family and friends, and wintering in Arizona following retirement.Norma is survived by her husband of 68 years, Howard and their four children; Dennis (Jeri) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Kevin (Karen) of Omaha, NE, Darren (Teresa) of Sioux Falls, SD and Korry (Deb) of Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren - Brad Melstad, Jodi Marshall, Melanie Bye, Jenny Cary, Megan Kuehler, Austin Melstad, Logan Melstad, Mackenzie Melstad, Jason Laferriere, and Nick Laferriere; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Norma is her brother Larry Meyer of Sioux Falls.She is preceded in death by her parents.Funeral services for Norma will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church in rural Hetland with Rev. Dave Schoeld officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Preston cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at the Johnson Henry Funeral Home in Arlington, SD.
