Newton "Gene" StewartLaingsburg, MINewton "Gene" Stewart, age 74 of Laingsburg passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Olive Branch Adult Care in Perry. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Laingsburg with Rev. Fr. Duane H. Pamment officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at St. Isidore's. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday followed by a Knights of Columbus service. Newton Eugene "Gene" Stewart was born on August 23, 1942 in Williamston, the son of Newton and Margaret (Ley) Stewart. He was a 1960 graduate of Perry High School. On August 25, 1962 he married Elaine Thelen in Lansing. Gene was retired from C.A.T.A as a maintenance supervisor. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Laingsburg Lions Club and St. Isidore Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Elaine, three children; Connie (Dane)Nickols, Gregory (Tammy) Stewart and Timothy (Etsuko) Stewart, six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, brothers; David (Debbie) Stewart, Brion (Diane) Stewart and Scott (Marsha) Stewart, sister Martha (Ray) Henning, many nieces and nephews.
