Apr. 21, 1926 ~ Dec. 14, 2016Nelda Young Berger, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on December 14, 2016 at the age of 88. Nelda was born on April 21, 1926 in Huntington Utah to Lee E. Young and Addie K. Young. Most of her youth was spent in Huntington and the surrounding areas. Her fondest memories are of the summers she spent in Huntington Canyon where her father was a forest ranger and she ran through the canyon with her brothers and sister. She moved to Salt Lake City in 1944, where she graduated from South High School and met the love of her life, Elmer Berger. They were married on April 1, 1947 and shared a long and happy life together. Nelda was an avid golfer, with Club Championships at Alpine, Willow Creek and Bloomington Country Clubs. At one time, she held the Elko Golf Course record. She also won many, many couples tournaments with Elmer and her friends. Nelda never saw a putt she didn't like. She loved to travel in her motorhome with Elmer, friends and family. She saw a lot of beautiful country and played a lot of different golf courses. Nelda is most loved and respected for being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved deeply and protected fiercely. She will always be cherished for her selflessness, love and service to them. She is survived by her husband Elmer, daughter, Leigh (Ric) Widerburg, son, David (Christy) Berger, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sister and a grandson. The family wishes to express gratitude for the kindness and compassion shown to Nelda by the Sunrise Senior Living Staff and Inspiration Hospice and Home Health. A private memorial service will be held in Nelda's honor. Please take a moment to remember Nelda in your own way and give your family a big hug in her honor. Online condolences may be shared at
