Nan Southern was born in San Diego California on May 26, 1940. She was the second of 3 children from the union of Pamela Knight and Chauncey Southern. The family relocated to Houston Texas in 1950 when Nan was just 10 years old.
Nan was educated in the Harris County Public school system and graduated from Farris Trade School in 1965. She was a gifted artist and was recruited by Walt Disney studios upon graduation. However, she decided to pursue a career of helping others and begin to take night classes to further her education in the medical field. Nan begin working as a nurse's aide at Jennings Hospital in 1967. She later switched to a Transport Aide at the Texas Medical Center where she worked for 33 years before retiring.
She was married to Walter L Bragg of Bryan, Texas in the late 1960's and produced two children, Michael Lynnwood Bragg, And Chris Lei Mccray. She was a great homemaker and kept an extremely clean home for her family. he loved life and being around people. She was always caring, strong, and thoughtful of others. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and friend.
In retirement, she spent time playing card games with her children, playing The Sims video game, watching her favorite TV shows, and hanging pictures of her beloved President Barack Obama. She also enjoyed time with her siblings and their families.
Nans' health begin to decline over the past few years. She departed this life on November 13, 2019 at 6:23am at Lahser Hills Care Center. Her father, Chauncey Southern (2000), preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved son and daughter, Michael Lynnwood Bragg, And Chris Lei Mccray , her loving twin, Bettie Lou Davis, and Jacqueline Pugh Boatman. A Host of grandchildren and great grandchildren including , Amber knight, Brooklyn Lakhol,Gloria knight, Mackie Knight, Avery tenner, Kylie Tenner, OShanea Lei Davis, Whitney Bragg, Brittany Bragg, Michael Bragg, Lexington Mccray, Otto Mable, Mahari Knight and Chelsea Crain .
Nan was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many. She will always be in our hearts and forever in our memories.
