Myrtis Coy Porter DaigreA Mass of Christian Burial for Myrtis Coy Porter Daigre will be held at 11: 00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at St. Rita Catholic Church with Rev. Craig Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, with recitation of the Holy Rosary in the Kramer Chapel at 6:00 p.m., led by Rev. Taylor Reynolds. Vistitation will resume on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Myrtis Coy Porter was born on October 30, 1921 in Barron, LA. to George and Annie Porter. She passed away November 16, 2016 at the age of 95 at The Summit Retirement Center in Alexandria, LA.As a young woman, Myrtis worked as a waitress and later worked in the school lunchrooms at St. Frances Cabrini elementary school and Bolton High School. She also helped her husband with his auto repair business for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Myrtis and her husband enjoyed many good times with their circle of friends and relatives who called themselves "The Recycled Teenagers". She always said she loved to hear people laugh and have good clean fun. Her special interests were gardening, canning, cooking and sewing. For many years, she was a member of the Wisecrackers sewing circle at St. Rita Catholic Church where she made beautiful smocked gowns for premature babies. She also had a large collection of dolls, most of which she salvaged and were in need of repair and dressing. She spent hours and hours making beautiful clothes for many of her dolls. Myrtis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years Leon E. Daigre, Sr.; parents, George Everett and Annie Jane Barron Porter; brothers, John Thomas "JT" Porter (Rose) and Kester Frank "Pete" Porter (Bobbie); sisters, Claudia Marie Couvillion (Roland), Eva Ruth Leeper (Melvin), Opal Audette Bryan (Elzie), and Valda Mae Simmons (Tom); and daughter-in-law Carolyn Diane Curry Daigre.Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Leon Ernest Daigre, Jr. of Deville; three daughters, Linda Gail Love (Richard) of Pineville, Mary Elaine Faust (Harold) of Natchitoches, Peggy Sue Howard (Larry) of DeRidder; sisters, Mamie Jo Mayeux of Pineville, and Patricia Ann Taylor (Bill) of Kansas; twelve grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Christopher Daigre, Chad Damien Daigre, Chance Everett Daigre, and Jeffrey Leon Faust; and her grandsons-in-law, Kenny Sullivan, Tim Kyle, and Wesley Bush. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Cas Dayton Sullivan, Lee Reagan Sullivan, Logan Marc Faust, Jeston Tye Sullivan, Bret Kyle, and Drew Ensminger. The family would like to thank the staff of The Summit Retirement Center, especially the Alzheimer's Unit Staff for your kindness, compassion and care for our mother. We will forever be grateful.
