Myles Sweeney, 78, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.Myles was born on Sept. 23, 1937 in Las Vegas. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and attended Highlands University.He worked as a finance manager in various cities around New Mexico for more than 31 years. He was a basketball official for more than 21 years and served as head of the northeastern region for a time. He was a member of the
Elks Lodge.He was an avid sports fan and loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He coached his son's little league and senior league baseball teams.He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia; his children, Debbie Perea and husband, Patrick, of Albuquerque, Donna Vigil and husband, Richard, of Las Vegas, and Myles Sweeney Jr. of Santa Fe; five grandchildren, Jeremy Perea, Jessica Perea, Brandi Bell, and husband, Brandon, Brittany Vigil and Ryan Turner, all of Albuquerque, Brooke Vigil of Las Vegas, and one great-grandson, Alexander Bell.He is also survived by his brother, Micky Sweeney and wife, Marty, of Las Vegas, and Pat Sweeney of Salt Lake City; sisters-in-law, Agnes Sanchez and husband, Charlie, Margie Barela, Jane Marquez, all of Albuquerque, and Pat Padilla of Santa Fe, brothers-in-law, Arthur Marquez and wife, Patsy, Eddie Marquez, all of Albuquerque, David Marquez and wife, Kate, and Steve Marquez and wife, Cynthia, all of Las Vegas, and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myles Sweeney and Meritita Gonzales Sweeney; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Arturo Marquez; sister, Ann Sweeney; and infant sons, Myles and Anthony Sweeney.Rosary Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday and funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Friday with both services to be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant.Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas. Pallbearers will be Arthur Marquez, David Marquez, Eddie Marquez, Jeremy Perea, Micky Sweeney and Pat Sweeney.
