Murad Gengozian “Moose” RACINE – Murad “Moose” Gengozian, 85, passed away on December 11th, 2016. Murad was born on March 9th, 1931 in Racine to Manoug and Esgouhi (Kouyoumjian) Gengozian. His mother passed away when he was 3 years old and he was blessed to have family and friends around to help. Murad married Joan (Jones) Gengozian at the St. Mesrob Armenian Church on September 30th, 1961 and was happily married until her untimely passing on December 21st, 1997. Murad was president of the high school class of 1950 at Wm. Horlick High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War, achieving the rank of Corporal. Following the war, he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he was active in student government. Murad was always active in the Armenian Church community. A lifelong member of the St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church in Racine, he served as a Diocesan Delegate for over 30 years, as a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, as an Armenian School Principal, and as a Parish Council Chairman. He was active in the Knights of Vartan, both as a member and as Commander of the organization, and in the Tomarza Association. He was involved in and served as a Director of the Midwest Regional Hye Camp. Murad was the owner and President of Gem-Mark Aluminum Products, a window manufacturing company in Racine. His interests included real estate, the stock market and Armenian history. Murad is survived by his children; Thomas (Sally) Gengozian, Steven (Patricia) Gengozian, and Carol Gengozian; his grandchildren, Kathryn, Jacob and John Diran Gengozian; his brother- in-laws and their spouses, Dayton (Karen) Jones and William (Peg) Jones; and many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Murad was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife Joan; by his siblings and their spouses, Shockey Gengozian, Esther (Howard) Hayes, Harry (Elizabeth) Gengozian and Gerald (Noel) Gengozian; by his in-laws, William and Ruth Jones; and his brother-in-law and spouse, Douglas (Joyce) Jones. Funeral services for Murad will be held at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 4605 Erie St., on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Avedis Kalayjian officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Wednesday evening from 4:30 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the prayer services at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church.
