Jun 29, 1946 - Dec 10, 2016
This obituary is administered by:
WORMELL, Micheline LeducMicheline was born on June 29, 1946 in Montreal, the first child of Henri (Quebecois) and Helen Leduc (Beland), originally from Flint, Michigan. A brother, Raymond, was born in 1949 (died 1999). She was educated and completed high school in Montreal. She later enrolled in the CEGEP adult education program and received her DEC diploma in 1989. She married Geoffrey Wormell in May 1979 and her married life was spent mostly in Beaconsfield. Unfortunately the couple were never successful in having children.Micheline was fascinated with history. She related strongly to people and society, so learning about the characters and intrigue of the past was something which gave her unending pleasure. She was an avid supporter of the Beaconsfield library and for many years volunteered there. She was also very attracted to handicraft work, particularly needlepoint, crochet, knitting, and beadwork, and was a member of the West Island Stitchery Guild. She attended programs organized by the guild in several cities as well as specialty Japanese Beading in Atlanta. She had great sympathy for those less fortunate, and donated generously to relief organizations such as the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and her personal favourite, Doctors without Borders. Micheline had an eclectic working life including Bell Canada and several years teaching grade school. She later saw an advertisement for a winter job involving sun, warmth, and palm trees, applied and found herself stationed at a resort on Grand Bahama Island. She never forgot the turquoise clear water and the beauty of the sand and coral. She spent winters in the Bahamas, St Lucia, and 2 seasons in Acapulco, Mexico. Later she began working with her investment advisor's company (today affiliated with Peak Investments) and quickly realized that she had found her niche. She successfully completed the Canadian Investment Advisor Training programme and continued working at the investment office for 15 years, retiring in 2011.The couple enjoyed their cottage at Lac Chaud, QC, and spent many happy summers and some winter holiday weeks there. She loved the peace of the lake and spent many morning hours in her canoe. They also later enjoyed touring with a small sports car, and in recent years winter cruising and dunking her toes at Copacabana Beach. Sadly, last March, just before another planned cruise Micheline started showing signs of a health problem and the trip was abandoned.Throughout treatment for incurable cancer she remained at home but entered hospital in November and was moved to the West Island Palliative Residence, where she received outstanding care and attention until the inevitable event. Micheline passed away quietly on December 10. Geoff, her husband, life friend, and lover was with her to the end.A remembrance service for Micheline will be held at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White funeral home in Pointe Claire on Wednesday, December 28 commencing at 4 p.m. with a visitation among family and friends. The service at 5 p.m. will be followed by an informal reception. The family is grateful for the care and attention given by the oncology team at the Lakeshore General Hospital, CLSC Pointe Claire, NOVA West Island, and the West Island Palliative Residence. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to NOVA West Island or the West Island Palliative Residence.
