SOUTHINGTON - Michael C. Rothermel, of Southington, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, after a long illness.Mike, the only child of the late Harry and Frances (Stinghen) Rothermel, was born on Nov. 3, 1951, in Somerville, N.J. Raised in Piscataway, N.J. he graduated from Immaculata High School in Bound Brook, N.J. and attended Kings College in Pennsylvania. He was a founding member and the lead guitarist for "Free-Wheelin'", a popular local New Jersey band of the 1970s. After a brief time in Wisconsin, Mike settled in Southington where he purchased Nordstrom Associates in 1993 and successfully ran the company until his death. Mike was a long-time volunteer coach in Southington town sports, both in the Southington Valley Midget Football League and the Western Baseball League where he was a life-time member and "The Voice of Western Baseball". Mike was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Bristol, where he shared his musical talents.Mike is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughter, Christine; his sons, Timothy (wife, Danielle) and Adam; his granddaughter, Althea; and his "grand-dog", Bella.The memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 736 King St., Bristol.
