This obituary is administered by:
Michael Allen Wolf passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on August 29, 1942 in Strong City, Kansas to Karl Alfred and Edna Brunner Wolf. Between his 1st and 2nd grades of school, the family moved from Cottonwood Falls to a farm near Buckeye, Kansas where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. Following the death of his dad in October 1953, Mike and his older brother Ken had much of the responsibility of running the family farm, along with their mother. Michael graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in Chapman, Kansas in 1960. Following graduation and not yet 18 years of age, he was off to San Antonio, Texas for basic training in the U S Air Force. It was in the Air Force that he became proficient in Electronics, a field that would serve him well for the remainder of his life–he was stationed in places such as Biloxi, Mississippi, Omaha, Nebraska and Iceland.Following his discharge from the Air Force in 1965, Michael went to work at Friden in Omaha. In September 1967, he was hired by Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico (now LANL), where his love of and skill in electronics was put to use. Over the years, Michael designed instruments critical to national security and he received numerous patents for his work. He also was the recipient of three IR-100 (now R&D 100) awards.Michael had a fierce love of learning and a mind like a steel trap. In high school, he read every book in the school library, including all of the encyclopedias. He never walked away from a challenge and always had graph paper and a pencil nearby to jot down his ideas and designs. In addition to working at LANL, he moonlighted for CompuSonics out of Denver, worked for AmTech in Santa Fe, and in 1993 he went to work full-time with Cell Robotics, a spin-off company from Los Alamos located in Albuquerque.A natural mechanic, Michael spent endless hours tinkering with cars and joined in driving clubs and drag races around the nation. He also participated as an extra in New Mexico based filming for TV and movies, appearing in several completed projects. A generous soul, he donated unmeasured amounts of time and money helping others. His study of the paths to spirituality and peace became his guide to giving, and his non-judgmental acceptance and love resulted a life shared with many friends.Michael is survived by his wife Diane Bogan-Wolf of Corrales, NM, three children, Robert (Kristie) Wolf, Springville, UT, Nichole (Brant) Evans, Gilbert, AZ and Monique (Charlie) Johnson, Carrollton, TX; two step-children Christina (Gerardo Pereira) Herrera, Corrales, NM, Andrea Herrera, Trinity, FL; five grandchildren and spouse and four step-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Carol Wolf, Springville, UT, a brother, Kenneth (Connie) Wolf, Canton, MI, step-siblings Mildred Guthals, Anita (Loren) Keller, Phyllis (John) Eshbaugh, Roy (Lynn) Jacobson and Carol (Loren) Rock; as well as nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and younger sister, Pamela Chronister in June of this year.A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at French Funerals, 9300 Golf Course Road, NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.
