RACINE - Melvin F. Zemke, age 83, passed away Sunday October 14, 2012 at his residence. Melvin was born on June 9, 1929 in Racine to the late Edward and Katherine (Wuster) Zemke. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and a life member of VFW Post 1391. Melvin retired as a Sergeant from the City of Racine Police Force. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. He was a founder and currently served as President of The Racine Police Department Retired Officers Association. Mel had a large circle of friends who shared his love as avid flea market sellers. Melvin is survived by all the members of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and his brother Earl (Donna) Zemke. Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joan (Pietrivitch-Storck) of 42 years and brother Glen Zemke. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Racine with Pastor Elias Kitoi Nasari presiding. Burial was also held on Thursday October 18, 2012 at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer would be appreciated.
