Swartzendruber, Melba Jean (Boatright) left the bounds of earth on November 11, 2015, at 93 years of age. She was born on March 1, 1922, to Ethel and George Boatright in Danville, KS. She met her lifelong partner, Harlan, while attending high school in Harper, KS. They were married on June 4, 1943 and spent 72 anniversaries together. Early on, they both worked hard with Harlan managing the business and Melba Jean handling the home responsibilities. Together, they raised two daughters and built a comfortable lifestyle. Later, they enjoyed worldwide travel and had a long, rewarding retirement. Melba enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and mahjong with her many friends. She also loved fishing, whether it was crappie at Grand Lake or cutthroat trout in Wyoming and Montana. Preceded in death by her brother, Bill Boatright; grandson, Conner White. Melba Jean is survived by her husband, Harlan, and daughters, Vicki Carter and Jill White. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Bret Carter, Ty White, Jenny Russel, and Ryan White; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Viewing and Visitation with Melba's Family will be from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 16, 2015, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 P.M. at Mayfield Cemetery, Mayfield, KS.
