Maviouleen King SavageMemphis, TNMaviouleen King Savage passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 19, 2017. She was born on October 20, 1922 in Oxford, Mississippi the fourth child of James Ebber King and Beulah Beatrice McCain King. She moved at an early age with her family to the Yocana, Mississippi community where she happily spent her youth among the beautiful hills and pastures of her family's farm. She graduated from Yocana High School at the top of her class when 16 years old, attended business school for a year and then attended the University of Mississippi. Her career involved office management and bookkeeping at several Memphis businesses and doctor's offices. She married Herman Paul Savage in 1948 and they are survived by their two daughters, Sarah Savage Prosser (Niel) and Martha Savage Payne (Paul). They lived in Memphis most of their married life.Maviouleen was active in her community and her church, Audubon Park Baptist. She was a member of several civic and community organizations and taught a Women's Sunday School Class. Her passion was her garden with its many beautiful beds of perennials, annuals and blooming shrubs. She welcomed her family, friends, and neighbors to beautifully prepared meals and they were often recipients of gifts of special treats from her kitchen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Herman, her sisters, Mary Alice King and Nilda King Hogan (Bill), her brother, Orville King (Mavis) and her great granddaughter, Mary Alice Karnes. She is survived by her younger brother, James Earnest King, her daughters, her five grandchildren, Jennifer Karnes (Stephen), Zachary Payne, Brian Payne (Meghan), William Payne (Margot), and Nathan Prosser, her three great grandchildren, Maeve and Lily Karnes and Basile Payne, and also her adopted grandchildren Linda Payne Dorheim (Tanner), their son Mason Dorheim, and Michelle, Alysia, and Renee Prosser along with many other extended family members whom she loved dearly.The family wishes to thank her faithful caregivers, Glory Price, Kay Saia, Pearl Hughes, Geraldine Ferguson and Yvette Russell.Visitation will be 9 a.m. Thursday, February 23 with funeral services following at 10 a.m. at Audubon Park Baptist Church. Any memorials may be made to Memphis Botanic Gardens, The Church Health Center or to any .
