Maurine E. FlahertyKnoxville, TNMaurine Elaine McFeely Flaherty, age 73, passed away at home on December 3, 2016. Elaine was born on April 8, 1943 in Roswell, New Mexico. Elaine graduated from New Mexico State University in 1965 and began a teaching career, she taught elementary and middle school in four different states over the course of 36 years. She also was a sponsor of the Eastwood High School Y-Club from 1980-1989. She earned her Master's degree from U.N.L.Y. in 1990, as she continued her teaching career. Mrs. Flaherty also taught children's art at the Fountain City Art Center where she volunteered. Both were part of her creative passions in life.Mrs. Flaherty is survived by her husband, Danny Flaherty of 51 years; son, Danny Flaherty II; daughter, Shannon West; 5 grandchildren, Tristan West, Tanner West, Chloe Flaherty, Peyton West and Caileigh Flaherty; brother, Carroll Shanks.In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Flaherty requested donations to be made to the Fountain City Art Center (213 Hotel Ave. Knoxville, TN 37918).
