Mattie Grier, 57, of Chicago, Illinois, United States, passed Monday, July 16, 2018. Mattie grew up on the southside of Chicago and graduated from Edison Elementary and Morgan park high school. In 1989 Mattie joined St. Mount Vernon MB Church and the late Rev Lee A. Davis baptized her to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Mattie will be remembered by many people she worked with in different offices in the Chicagoland while being a devoted wife and mother. Sister Mattie Grier became a member of the order of eastern star in 1992 Working Her Way up in the ranks and became the worthy matron of queen Vashti #1 in 1999 to 2007. From there she earned her worthy matron emeritus title. Sister Grier was a grand officer as well as a basic OES instructor she was active in Amaranth, Heroine of Jericho, Lady nights, and daughter of sphinx until her health has failed. Sister Grier was still active by having instructions on fourth Sunday for sisters of the lights chapter #1 And when she wasn't up to it Renee would do the instructions. She loved the order. Three days before she went home she gave worthy matron Michelle Elliot a list of charities and fund raisers she wanted done. She leaves behind her children to continue her legacy. Mattie and Emmanuel Burnett married together they raised their son Ronald Burnett and Daughter Nora Burnett. She later married to Wayne Grier. Her children blessed her with grandchildren Leandra Burnett, Taylor Burnett, Leron Burnett, and Ronald Burnett Jr. She will be missed by her sister Amber Williams and Brother Charles Williams. On July 16, 2018 in addition to joining her mother and glory Mattie joins her beloved grandmother Mattie Satie White and her brother Clifford and other loved ones.
