Mary McCartyWASHINGTON - Mary E. McCarty, 95, of Washington passed away at 1:01 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2016, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.She was born on April 2, 1921, in Peoria, the daughter of Harry and Stella Truitt Knickerbocker. She married Robert G. McCarty on October 11, 1941, in Peoria. He passed away on July 5, 1975, in Peoria.She was also preceded in death by her best friend and sister, Helen "Marie" Blackburn; along with sisters, Anna, Maggie and Lucille; and four brothers, Harry, Everett, Johnny and Jimmy.Surviving are two sons, Paul McCarty of Washington and Jimmy (Jean) McCarty of East Peoria, IL; and one daughter, Karen (Terry) King of Chillicothe, IL. Further surviving are 10 grandchildren, Lori, Robert, Jennifer, Jimmy, Mary Sue, Bryan, Jeremy, Brandon, Chad and David. Further surviving are 15 great-grandchildren and also great-great-grandchildren. She worked for Foster & Gallagher for over 20 years, last working as a photographer. She owned a dog grooming service called "Puppy Luv" in Peoria. Mary then worked as the house mother in the retirement center at Lutheran Home (Lutheran Hillside Village) in Peoria until the age of 82. She enjoyed many things in life, including birds, butterflies, dogs, fishing, photography, band concerts, puzzles and Sudoku, as well as water aerobics at Five Points in Washington, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family, including her dog, Petunia, and will be missed by all.A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2016, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Father Julius Turyatoranwa will celebrate. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 23, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Further visitation will be one hour prior to her service Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow her mass at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria. A memorial celebration of life will then be held 3 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the Universalist Unitarian Church, 3000 W. Richwoods Blvd., Peoria, IL.In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to Central Illinois Chapter or to the OSF Richard L.
