Mary GoosenMary Goosen, 101 of Parker died Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Monday, May 15, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Parker. Visitation with family present will be from 2-4pm Sunday afternoon at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker.Mary (Felsheim) Goosen was born on August 3, 1915, on a country farm in Turner County, SD. to Henry & Mary (Johns) Felsheim. She attended country school #52 through 8th grade. On February 11, 1945 she was united in marriage to Jacob Goosen. They purchased a farm near Parker where they farmed and raised their family. Mary remained on the farm with Darlene until just days before her passing. The Lord blessed them with three daughters: Janice, Darlene, and Deloris. Mary and Jacob were baptized together at the First Baptist Church in Parker in 1946. They remained lifelong members. Mary served many years as a deaconess, Sunday School secretary and was a member of Ladies Aide. On August 2, 2015 she was able to celebrate her 100th birthday with family and friends at First Baptist Church in Parker.She loved the simple things in life. Mary grew a large garden every year, canned her produce, planted many beds of flowers, pieced and hand quilted numerous quilts, and tended the countless chores of farm life. She loved to exhibit her handmade items at the Turner County Fair and won the "best of show" rosette a multitude of times.Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters Darlene Goosen of Parker and Deloris (Jerry) Herlyn of Marion; three granddaughters Jennifer (Shawn) McCormick of Marion, Kelsey Herlyn of Sioux Falls, and Megan Herlyn of Sioux Falls; three great-granddaughters Brielle, Elliana and Natalya McCormick; one sister-in-law Joyce Schrag of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; her daughter, Janice Goosen; her parents; two sisters, Ida Backhaus & Angie Mellegaard; one brother Harry Felsheim; and host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.In lieu of fresh flowers the family would prefer perennial plants and trees in honor of Mary's love of growing things. www.hofmeisterjones.com
