COVINGTON — Mary E. Gilletly, 97, of Covington and formerly of Sidney, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at 5:45 a.m. at Covington Care Center.
She was born on Oct. 15, 1919, in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of the late Forest and Gladys (Roberts) Denise.
On May 16, 1942, Mary first married Richard Shiflett who preceded her in death in 1978. In 1995 she was preceded in death by her second husband, William N. Gilletly.
Mary is survived by one son, Paul Shiflett of Centerville, one daughter, Bonnie (Bruce) Deck of Sidney, five grandchildren, Jennifer Hennessey, Trisha Deck, Jason (Denise) Shiflett, M. Allison Davis, and Andrea (Bruce) McLeod, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Davis, two sisters, Ruth Copsey and Jane Darrah, and two brothers, John and Richard Denise.
Mrs. Gilletly was a bookkeeper for General Highway Express retiring in 1986 after 27 years of service. She was a member of Sidney First United Methodist Church.
Mary enjoyed being a grandmother, playing the organ, flowers, and was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Sidney First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eileen Hix officiating, with a Celebration Luncheon to follow at the church. Committal will take place at the Dayton National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
