Mary Ann DillenburgWindsor HeightsMary Ann Dillenburg, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 14, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Mary Ann was born on January 29, 1928, to Clara and Joseph Nagel on a farm in Genola, MN by a midwife and Dr. Healy. She was one of ten children; number seven and the first girl. Mary Ann had eight brothers and one sister. She attended a one room country grade school and then attended high school freshman year in Little Falls, MN. The family moved to St. Cloud, MN her sophomore year and then to Hopkins, MN her junior and senior year where she graduated. Mary Ann went to college at St. Francis Nursing School at Breckenridge, MN and completed her nursing rotations at Mayo Clinic and St. Mary's in Rochester, MN. She later worked at Veteran's Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Hilbert (Burt) Dillenburg on December 29, 1949. To this union was born four boys and three girls. Mary Ann was known for her hospitality. She loved hosting gatherings of family and friends in her home of 50 years. Mary Ann test baked for Betty Crocker for 22 years and loved to cook. She enjoyed playing bridge, making crafts, needle point and fishing. Mary Ann was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Catholic Women's League, Catholic Nurses Association, St. Theresa School Board and served as a Communion Minister.Mary Ann is survived by her four sons, Ret. Naval Capt. Michael (Claire) Dillenburg of Onancock, VA, Ret. Air Force Capt. Stephen (Joyce) Dillenburg of Louden, TN, John (Jill) Dillenburg of Windsor Heights, IA, Richard (Vicki) Dillenburg of Payson, AZ; two daughters, Karla (Tony) Calumet of Clive, IA, and Ann (John)Dougherty of Urbandale, IA; son-in-law Rick (Deb) Douglas of Ankeny, IA, her siblings, Victor (Marie) Nagel of Minnetonka, MN, Joseph Nagel, Jr. of Hopkins, MN, John (Susan) Nagel of St. Louis Park, MN, Alfred (Carol) Nagel of Houston, TX and Virginia Russell of Ft. Collins, CO; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Elizabeth Douglas, grandson William Dixon and her brothers, Richard, Chester, and Cyril Nagel.The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Theresa Catholic Church where a vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Mercy Hospice.
