Martin James DwyerMartin James Dwyer, 79, of Lafayette, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017. He was born on April 25, 1938 in Evergreen Park, IL to the late Michael Joseph and Anne Marie (Igoe) Dwyer. Martin graduated from St. Rita High School in Chicago and received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On November 14, 1964, he married Patricia Houser in Chicago and she survives. Marty worked as an Engineer for the Purdue University Power Plants for over 20 years before retiring in 2001. He was an active volunteer for the Tippecanoe County Public Library book sales, Lafayette Urban Ministry, Family Promise at St. Thomas Aquinas, and camps for disabled adults. Marty volunteered as a tax preparer for AARP, Altar Service and Sacristan at St. Thomas Aquinas. He also gleaned produce for the food pantry and was a volunteer firefighter for Sheffield Township. He enjoyed running 5K's and half marathons, working out at Lambert Fieldhouse, and being the guy everyone called for repairs on anything. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Dwyer; daughters, Ann (Tom) Kriebel of Lafayette, Erin (Bob) Wagoner of Kennesaw, GA, and Maura (Chad) Rufenbarger of Newport Beach, CA; and his sister, Margaret Dwyer of Chicago. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Carmen, Ben, Jillian, Mycala, Noah, Luke, Aydanne, Mairin, Liam, Ciara, and Emery. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3rd from 4 to 8 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Rosary at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 4th at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas (535 W. State Street, West Lafayette) with internment following in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Tippecanoe County Public Library in loving memory of Martin.
