Martha Mae Gentges (Byers) of East Tawas passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City, age 87 years. She was born on Feb. 23, 1928 in Clawson, Michigan to Flemin and Flora (Sharp) Byers. Martha, or as her friends and family knew her, "Marty," owned and operated the Buckhorn Inn for many years. During that time she developed so many friendships and created a tremendous amount of fun memories that continued throughout her life. She will always be remembered for her enjoyment of reading a good book and spending time outside in her garden. Martha is survived by her four loving children, Deborah (David) Mioduch, Cynthia (Dick) Hall, George E. (Candi) Gentges Jr. and Adam C. (Christine) Gentges; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Adam, Jason, Nathan, Jeremy, Alisha, Abby, Taryn and Justin; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward and Jack Byers; one sister, Ruth Byers; and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Gentges; and two sons, Lawrence and James Gentges. Her family welcomed friends for visitation on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 23 with Pastor Rob Nordin officiating. Interment took place in Greenwood Cemetery in East Tawas.
