Martha KoekenbergDecember 5, 1937-October 16, 2013Martha Koekenberg, 75, passed away after her battle with pancreatic cancer on October 16, 2013 at Lane House, where she had been the last few weeks.  She was born on December 5th, 1937 in Illinois just west of Pence, Indiana to Wilford Tenton (Tent) and Euretha (Godbey) Wesley.  In 1942 the family moved from Illinois to Hedrick, Indiana where she grew up.  She attended school in the 2-room school house in Hedrick through the 7th grade.  At that time there was a school consolidation and she attended Judyville school for one year before going to Williamsport High School.  On November 14th, 1953 she married Leslie Ray Koekenberg of Attica.  They set up residence in Darlington until buying a small farm between Darlington and Linden where they raised their 4 children.  Martha worked at R.R. Donnelley until the birth of her second child, when she chose to stay at home to raise her children.  She returned to work after her youngest was in school.  She worked at Loeb's Department store, Ingress Plastene, and also Federal Mogul in Frankfort.  She loved her flowers and was well known in her neighborhood for her large flower beds that seemed to be in continuous bloom.  Martha preferred to be outside in her flower or vegetable garden to anything else. When inside, she enjoyed listening to her gospel music and was always humming a hymn as she worked.  Every year for the month of December she worked on making large amounts of chocolate candies that she distributed to neighbors, family, and friends for Christmas.  During this time, the bed of her spare bed room was covered with boxes of assorted homemade chocolate covered treats.She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Leslie Koekenberg, her daughter Peggy (Lyle) Underwood, and sons, Paul and Bill Koekenberg, all of Crawfordsville.  Also surviving are her brother Richard and his wife Marlene Wesley of Williamsport, her sister Dorothy Jaynes of Lafayette, and sister Brenda Sando of Columbia, South Carolina, her sister-in-law Donna Wesley of Attica, 1 grandson and 4 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest brother Lawrence Wesley, her twin sister Mary Bales, and her daughter Paula Koekenberg Emerson.Visitation will be at Noon Saturday at Burkhart Funeral Home until funeral services begin at 2 PM, led by Pastor Alan Goff.  Burial will follow at Linden Cemetery.  Online condolences can be made at www.BurkhartFH.com.
