Martha J. Black, 92Muncie - Martha J. Black passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.She was born on October 8, 1924 in Muncie, the daughter of Edward R. and Mary Pauline (Ruble) Cox and graduated from Selma High School in 1942. She received her Bachelor's Degree in 1946 and Master's Degree in 1969 both in Education from Ball State University. On January 17, 1948 in Muncie, she married Dwight Orville Black.She taught for 34 ½ years mostly in Muncie Schools, including all 3 high schools and retired in 1986. She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Chi Omega Sorority, Indiana State Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Riley Jones Women's Club and was a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Selma American Legion where she also served as past president.She was an AVID bridge player and dearly loved spending time with her family.Surviving are two sons, Douglas E. Black (wife, Loretta) of Cartersville, GA and Gregory D. Black (wife, Pamela) of Muncie; two grandchildren, Amanda Black of Cartersville, GA and Andrew Black (wife, Lora) of Yorktown; two great-grandchildren, Emmitt and Ellie Black; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Dwight Orville Black on March 6, 1993; daughter-in-law, Annette Black; and two sisters, Betty Briggs - McCafferty and Nancy Shauer.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Reverend Doctor Sherrie Drake officiating. Burial will follow services in Elm Ridge Cemetery.Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 or one hour prior to services on Saturday.   Memorial contributions may be directed to the Betty Dudley and Elnora Dudley Scholarship Fund, 6000 E.
