Martha Hood SisterhenMemphis, TNMartha Hood Sisterhen, age 93, died peacefully on Oct. 4, 2017. Memorial services will be held at the chapel of Kirby Pines Estates, 3535 Kirby Road, Memphis, TN, on October 14, at 1:30 p.m. A private burial will be held in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA.Martha Belle was born on September 5, 1924, in Murray, KY, to Judge Richard Hall and Mary Lee Hood. She was preceded in death a brother, Oliver Hood, a sister, Hazel Hood Furgerson, and a daughter, Marcia Lee Sisterhen McIntosh. She is survived by two sons: Daniel Hall Sisterhen and wife, Christa of Alpharetta, GA, and George William Sisterhen and wife Patricia of Hot Springs Village, AR. She also leaves eight grandchildren: Marti Brandwine and husband Joel; Anne Johnson and husband Chris; Katie Scott and husband, Richard Weirnek; Patrick Sisterhen and wife Shayna; Laura Sisterhen and husband, Jeremy Jones; and Lesley McAllister and husband Scott, and Alex McIntosh. Martha had eleven great-grandchildren.After graduating from Murray State College, Martha worked as a newspaper reporter and an American Airlines stewardess before meeting the love of her life, Lt. William Hicks Sisterhen, USN. They were married sixty years and raised three children. Martha was active in her community, serving in leadership positions in Albany, GA Garden Club, DAR, UDC, and Charity League.Gram, as her family knew her, will be remembered as a vibrant, loving, and true southern belle. She was a beautiful example of optimism and grace. The family is very grateful of all the staff at Kirby Pines for their kind and attentive care.
