Martha "Nina" Imelda Cordova Obituary

Jan 31, 1959 - Jan 18, 2014

This obituary is administered by:
Martha, also known as "Nina" to her dear beloved goddaughter, Emily Olsen, was swept away in the arms of an Angel while asleep on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. She was adored by her older five siblings. She had deep respect for and was the sole caregiver of her mother. Martha was born on January 31, 1959 in San Luis, Mexico and was raised in Yuma. She graduated from Yuma High School in 1978 and later worked as a Receptionist and a Manager for business establishments.Never having children of her own; she became like a mother to her many nieces and nephews including Jorge, Haile, James, Kevin Patrick, and Kristopher. She loved to dance, sing, attend family gatherings, go to church, and cook. Most of all she loved to talk; she was such a wonderful story teller and offered elaborate, amusing commentaries. She touched many people with her spiritual, humble disposition.Martha taught us that TRUE beauty and character is felt and not seen. That one should truly appreciate those around them and not take love for granted. The most important lesson she reflected is to spend all your energy towards loving others and life, so that there is no room for regret, worry, fear, nor drama. She was truly happy in her last six years in molding her beloved goddaughter, Emily Olsen, from the age of four months into a lovely, well mannered, and confident young girl by teaching her the Word of God. She spent time creatively styling Emily's hair, singing with her at the top of her lungs, dancing with her "shimmying", giving her lots of tummy time, and showering her with hugs and kisses. She was always singing "You are My Sunshine", reading stories, playing dinosaurs, and teaching life lessons. She is survived by brother, Manuel Cordova (Cookie); sisters, Maria Eaton (Richard) and Rosa Maldonado (Ralph); nieces, Zoni "Chile" Pelroy (Kevin), Miriam Wright (James), Zeila Zambrano (Julio); and godsons, Andres Cordova, James Junior. Her extended family include: Brady and Dr. Rinely Olsen, their children Alex and Emily; and other relatives Bob Olsen, Emily Olsen, Ricardo Roman, Dr. Yessica Roman and their children Marcus and Judy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margarita Quintana; sister, Marielena Lastra; brother, Joaquin Cordova; cousin, Ezequiel Quintana; and nephew, Dr. Manny Cordova.I truly believe that she is in heaven dancing with her beloved Diva diamond-collared chihuahua, Sophie, laughing with her twinkling eyes telling us "don't cry, be happy". She now has eternal life and peace. She was a spirited, wise, and pure individual who will surely be missed by many. She will never, ever be forgotten and will always be missed. We love you, Martha, and are looking forward to someday seeing you up in the Kingdom of Heaven! For now, we will take great comfort in keeping you alive in our wonderful memories, hearing your words in our hearts and feeling your love with each passing ray of sunshine."Life is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun." (Ecclesiastes 11:7)FOR THOSE WHO I LOVED AND WHO LOVED MEWhen I leave, let me loose, let me go, for I have many things to see and to feel. Don't cling to me with your tears but be happy for the years that we shared. I handed you my Love and you responded by giving me many moments of happiness. Thank you for sharing the path that you walked with me, but this last one, I need to walk alone. If you feel sorrow and pain; it's only natural. Remember that you always have God to confide in. It is only for a moment that we will be separated. I will always be near, I will never be far; because I will always be alive in your best memories. And, if one day, you need me, you only need to call. You will not be able to touch nor to see me, but in your hearts, my words of Love you will be able to hear. And, when from this world you need to part, I will be illuminating your Path with a bright light so we can be reunited again, in our new Life. –AnonymousPlease sign the guestbook at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/yumasun.
