Marjorie Nina (Hughes) JobaBattle CreekMarjorie Nina (Hughes) Joba, 95, of Battle Creek made her transition with her family at her side on January 3rd, 2016.  She was born on November 18, 1921, the daughter of Nina E. (Worth) and Ivan W. Hughes in East Leroy, Michigan. A lifelong resident of Battle Creek, Marjorie graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1940 and attended Battle Creek Business College. She worked as a clerk at Bell Telephone until she married Edward Stoeckley, who was killed in World War II. Their son James E. Stoeckley was born in 1945. She also lost a brother Leonard I. Hughes during the war.After the war, Marjorie married high school classmate Daniel Joba (Dzioba) in 1947 and had a daughter Judith A. Joba and son Daniel L. Joba.  She is survived by Judi and Dan'l; daughters-in-law Vicki L. Stoeckley (Bauman) and Catherine L. Joba (Haase); four grandchildren Jennifer Cronin, Christina Merritt, Timothy Stoeckley and David Tidwell; eight great grandchildren; brother-in-law Edwin L. Joba; and several nieces and nephews.  Her husband Daniel preceded her in death in March 2013.Margie and Dan were charter members of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and she was a charter member of the United Methodist Women's group there. They remained active members throughout their lives, were involved in the Stephens Ministries, and other church groups.Marjorie became a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Red Cross Grey Lady at Leila Hospital. Once her children were grown she worked for Peoples Savings and Loan and Great Lakes Bancorp.  Once retired, she took up rug weaving, was active with the Auxiliary of the Battle Creek Health System (Bronson BC) and volunteered in the Chapel Hill Church office.  After the loss of her son James in a fatal car accident, Marjorie's compassion and great love of children led her to form a local chapter of "The Compassionate Friends", a nationwide support group for parents grieving the loss of a child.  For this she received the 1989 "George Award" from the Battle Creek Enquirer and News.As a retired couple, Margie and Dan traveled most of the United States and loved to spend time with their family and friends.  Some especially favorite places for them were the beaches of Lake Michigan during the summer and they took many fall color tours in northern Michigan.  Marjorie's favorite pastimes were watching the birds from her living room window, sitting on her back porch on warm, sunny days, and enjoying drives in the country.  She was an avid reader of spiritual materials and always kept up with local news.  Her love of children and her compassion for others was an endearing quality that will be missed by so many who called her Mom, Grandma, and Friend.  A memorial service to celebrate Margie's life will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 157 Chapel Hill Drive, Battle Creek with a visitation one hour prior to services.
