Marilyn Sue ShipleyDecember 27, 1955November 3, 2017Marilyn Sue Shipley of Sparks, Nevada passed away very peacefully on November 3, 2017 in Reno at the age of 61. Marilyn was born on December 27, 1955 in Carson City on the heels of the Storm of the Century.Marilyn attended elementary and high school in Fernley, Nevada and was a graduate of the class of 1974. She went on to attend the University of Nevada, Reno where she earned a Master's Degree in Home Economics. With her degree in hand she taught in many schools across Nevada, including Austin High School, Tonopah High School, Proctor Hug and North Valley High Schools in Reno, and Pine Middle School in Reno. In addition to teaching, she worked as a Cooperative Extension Agent in Hailey, Idaho and Incline Village, Nevada. Marilyn retired from teaching in 2010.Marilyn was preceded in death by parents Robert and Bertha Shipley. Survivors include sister Roberta Duvall, Brother-in-law Ray, and nieces Kaitlyn and Kirsten all of Sparks, Nevada, and brother Rod Shipley, sister-in-law Pat of Anchorage, Alaska and niece Tasha Queen and her husband Brooks of Eagle Vail, Colorado.A Celebration of Marilyn's life will be held on Thursday November 9th at 3:30 pm at the historic Huffaker School at Bartley Ranch in Reno. Marilyn had a special place in her heart for her many pets over the years so the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
