Marilyn S. Booher Obituary

Sep 23, 1941 - Aug 05, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Booher, Marilyn S.Age 75, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 23, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA. Marilyn (nicknamed Boofer since childhood) is the daughter of the late Richard C. and Loveday (Johnston) Sauer. She received a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Penn State University in 1963.She married the love of her life, Kenneth L. Booher on February 1, 1964 and pursued various careers including teaching, real estate and business ownerships.Marilyn created many cherished memories with her family relocating over the years to New York, Pennsylvania and eventually Wisconsin to a home on Lake Winneconne which she and Ken affectionately called "Camelot." Many hours were spent playing on and in the water, visiting around a campfire, snowmobiling and just being together with friends and family. After losing Ken to cancer in 1998, Marilyn started the next chapter of her life, relocating to Sun City Hilton Head in South Carolina where she embraced a very active outdoor lifestyle of kayaking, dragon boat racing, golfing, playing pickle ball and traveling the world. Friends and family visits were a constant in her home as she loved sharing her adventures with all. As a mother and grandmother, she was a beautiful role model and instilled in her family a joy of shared activities and fun traditions that will live on forever.Marilyn participated in and organized many groups. A self-proclaimed "mermaid", she loved time in or on the water with her special groups of friends, "The Swamp Girls", "The Turtle Ladies" and "The Synchronettes". As a member of the Sun City Synchronettes, she brought her collegiate experience of synchronized swimming to the group's annual performances. She was an avid paddler kayaking and competing on the Beaufort Dragon Boat team. Paddling was a year-round experience for Marilyn whether enjoying the local Intracoastal waters with dolphins, meandering through a cypress swamp in Georgia or skimming the water alongside the magnificent glaciers of Alaska.Marilyn is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Christopher and Jeanne Booher, Tryon, NC, Michael Booher, Appleton, WI, two granddaughters, Talia and Sydney; Vicki Booher (mother of granddaughters). She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her sister, Nancy (Sauer) Smatsky; her brother, Richard Sauer; and her special friend in Sun City, Randy Bolduc. We know she will be watching over us with her beautiful smile, encouraging us to get in the game and live life to the fullest. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 12 PM at Saul's Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC. Friends will be received in advance of the service from 10 AM to 12 PM at the funeral home until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memoriam, made out to: 1.Hospice of the Low Country, PO Box 3827, 7 Plantation Park Dr, Unit 4, Bluffton, SC 29910 (843) 706-2296-or-2.Dragonboat Beaufort, website - dragonboatbeaufort.org, address - PO Box 213, Beaufort, SC 29901, attn.: Doreen Pierce, Treasurer.
