Marcine Nancy JonesJanuary 10, 1922 -Marcine Nancy Gardner Jones, 91, of Pocatello, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday May 7, 2013 at the home of her daughter in West Valley City, Utah from complications incident to age. She has been homebound since last fall and has lived with her children since then. She was born on January 10, 1922 in Blackfoot Idaho to William Edward Gardner and Nancy Evaline Stone . She grew up in the Rose area, 7 miles north of Blackfoot. She attended elementary school in the Rose School House, and then graduated from Blackfoot High School where she participated in Big Sisters and was active in Glee Club.Marcine has said that she never looked forward to summer vacation from school because summer was a time of lots of hard work on the family farm…even for the youngsters. But, she says, she learned early on how to work.Because the United States entered World War II in 1941 the military draft began and Selective Service Boards were organized around the country and Marcine got a job with them. It was her duty to handle the paper work, physical exams, inductions, etc. She said that "When I was paid $75.00 per month, I thought I was rich". Marcine worked at the "draft board" until after the war ended. In 1936 she met Clarence Jones. She often joked that she was the one "who sent Clarence his draft notice". Clarence and Marcine corresponded while he was in the Navy. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS temple in 1945 while Clarence was on a two week leave. Clarence was discharged from the Navy in 1945 and they headed back to Blackfoot to begin their life together.Marcine and Clarence had 4 children and she has spent her life loving, teaching, and mothering them. Her passion in life was her family, as well as serving others. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings, including leadership positions with the Primary (children), Relief Society (women), and as a Visiting Teacher. She and Clarence served as ordinance workers for 12 years in the Idaho Falls Temple. She has been a member of the LA NEUVELLE ET VIELLE literary club for many years. Marcine worked some in the family business over the years. Her home and yard are always full of beautiful flowers which she loved so much.Marcine was usually where "the kids" were: at all birthday parties, the fireworks, campouts (yes, she has slept in sleeping bags), band concerts, drill team performances, plays, and almost anything else the kids were doing. She was an excellent seamstress, and made her daughters prom dresses, formals, and wedding dresses. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, and 3 brothers. She is survived by her two sisters: Zella Hansen, Rexburg, Idaho; Lucille Jones, Blackfoot, Idaho; sister in-law Jean Gardner, Blackfoot, Idaho; her children: Linda (Terry) Nelson of West Valley City, Utah; Roger (Kathy) Jones, Chubbuck, Idaho; Debra (Ron) Kramer, La Center, Washington; and Susan (Keven) Christopherson, South Jordan, Utah; 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Street L.D.S. Chapel (550 W. Cedar) with Bishop Gerald Holmes of the Cedar 2nd Ward officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening May 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Manning Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N 12th Pocatello, Idaho, and on Monday morning one hour prior to services at the church.Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery, Blackfoot Idaho.
