Mantz Miller Obituary

Aug 01, 1929 - Jul 08, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Mantz C. MillerRed LionAfter a long, happy life full of love and adventure, Mantz Miller died at his home, surrounded by his family on July 8, 2017. He was 87 years old. He was born on August 1, 1929, the son of the late M. Curran and O. Mae (Anderson) Miller. He attended Battle Hill one room school and graduated from Lower Chanceford High School in 1946. He married his beloved wife, Gloria (McCue) Miller on November 25, 1950. They had wonderful times in each other's company, roaming the country in their RV, going to NASCAR races and traveling to Mexico, the Canary Islands, Alaska and his favorite trip, South America. While helping his dad farm evenings and weekends, Mantz worked for the State of Pennsylvania Bureau of Publications. In 1962, he and his wife started Mantz Miller Insurance Agency in a corner of their living room. He was very proud that the business continues today, owned by the second and third generations of his family. Mantz was the last of the charter members of the Brogue Lions Club. He and his wife were longtime members of Shenbergers Chapel United Methodist Church in New Bridgeville until it was destroyed by fire in 2009. He belonged to the Red Lion Country Club and enjoyed playing golf and having lunch at the round table with his friends. Mantz and Gloria belonged to and traveled with the Harrisburg Ski Club. He especially enjoyed his Pauper buddies and escapades with Woozy Moose. He loved his family heartily and without reservation. They loved him back. He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Vicki and her husband, Dennis Grove; grandson, Jack Grove and his wife, Julie and their daughters, Hanna and Emma; his granddaughter, Anne and her husband, Shayne Beecher and their sons, Max and Charlie; and his furry companion, Hope. The family would like to thank Hospice & Community Care for their gentle care of Mantz and all of us. You gave us peace of mind. And to our own nurse, Julie, you and your lovely assistant, Jack, made this peaceful passage possible. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion, with Pastor Todd Smith officiating. Viewings will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17604 or SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406 or Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Hospital, 1249 Cocoa Ave., Suite 115, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033. Send condolences at HeffnerCare.com
