MALCUM MURPHYMANSFIELD: Malcum "Mac" Murphy, 87, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was born on July 17, 1929, in Salyersville, KY, to the late Jeff and Hazel (Hale) Murphy. Mac's father died when he was a young teen and he helped support his mother and siblings.Mac came to Mansfield in July, 1948 from McClure, VA, and in 1949 he met the love of his life, June Davis, at a medicine show in Bellville. They were introduced to each other by his sister, Nancy, and her brother, Olin, and were married December 3, 1949. Mac worked in many jobs, factories, the railroad and became a master carpenter. He worked hard, did whatever he had to, and worked however many jobs he needed to in order to make ends meet. Mac was not an educated man, but he was a very smart man. One of his long time employers, who had great respect, would tell everyone that "Mac was the smartest uneducated man he had ever met". He loved the Lord and gave his life to the Lord a long time ago and was ready to go home.Mac and June's children had so much love for their dad and were always very proud of the man he was and the love that he would show them every day. He was always there for his children whenever they needed him. He set a great example of hard work and taught them to respect others and themselves. He had a great love for all of his grandchildren, and he is going to be missed terribly by his family and friends.Mac is survived by June, his wife of 67 years, three sons, James, Jeffery (Mitzi) and David (Julie); four daughters, Faith, Hope (Earl), Charity (Troy), and Ronna (Steve); two sisters, Elizabeth Cantrell and Phyllis McKee; sister-in-law, Ruth Rice; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and a very special niece and her husband, Sue and John Hunt.He is preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren, April Dawn, Jessy Malcum and Jason Earl Lothery; one daughter, Hazel; ten brothers, Frank, Jeff, John, Ned, Ronny (Toy), Denny, Donald Edward, Little Ike, Lacy and Fred; and eight sisters, Prudy, Nancy, EllaMae, Joyce, Grace, Ruby, Jessy and Iva Gladys.Calling hours will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Werner Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the funeral home, with Mac's nephew, Pastor Joe Vance, officiating.
