Madeleine Durant (nee Fernette) of South Daytona, Fla. passed away peacefully at Halifax Health Hospice of Port Orange on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at age 99.Madeleine was born on April 24, 1914 in East Tawas. She married Dewey Durant on May 21, 1938 and he preceded her in death in March 1973.She moved to Florida in 1975 to be with her daughter's family and lovingly helped take care of her two grandchildren. Madeleine was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas and was a lifetime member of the Audie Johnson American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 211. She spent many hours volunteering at Silver Valley when it was open for skiing and tobogganing.She liked to shop, bake, read and loved to do crossword puzzles and work in the yard. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Barbara (William) Martin of Florida; granddaughter, Diane (Todd) Silverman of Ohio; grandson, Steve (Laura) Martin of Colorado; and four great grandchildren, Jackson Martin and Avery, Emma and Jason Silverman.Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas on Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m. with Father John Bashe officiating.Interment will follow in the American Legion Cemetery.
