Mrs. Lucille Herrin Laney, 88, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at White Oak Manor - Rock Hill. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Whitesell Funeral Home, 975 Riverview Road, Rock Hill, SC. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Lauralwood Cemetery, Rock Hill. Lucille was born on February 8, 1928, in Swain County, North Carolina and was a daughter of Charles Hillary Herrin and Lura Rose Herrin. Lucille worked for many years at Cone Mills of Pineville, NC. She retired from Celanese Corp. after 17 years of service and was the first female maintenance mechanic to work for the company. She loved gardening, fishing and writing poetry. After the death of her husband she raised seven children alone. She will be remembered as a lady who was very witty. Surviving are two sons, James Laney and Joseph Laney; five daughters, Nida Petty (John), Vivian Rainey (Lonnie), Janice Bivins, Dena Carlyle, and Marilyn Teague (Danny); 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Alexander Laney; a daughter, Elizabeth Laney and a grandson, Billy Wade Downing.Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.Condolences may be left for the family at www.whitesellfunerahome.net.
