Lucas David Frerking, 23, of Waverly, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.Luke was born on Aug. 11, 1993, in Pella, the son of David and Laura (Tysseling) Frerking. He was baptized at First Reformed Church in Pella. Luke was raised in Waverly and graduated from the Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 2012. He then attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., for three years. Luke was currently studying politics and history at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Luke had previously worked at the Waverly Public Library and the Hillsdale College Library and spent many summers in the field detasseling. Luke was active in Mock Trial, both in high school and college. He was a member and faithful volunteer at Orchard Hill Church, an engaged observer of human nature, an avid reader, a collector of words, a compassionate rescuer of stray cats, and a consummate story teller. He was never happier than when he was debating anything from the serious to the nonsensical, playing strategy games with his friends, or telling stories around a Friday night bonfire with his family. Luke's memory will be cherished by his family and friends. Luke's memory is honored by: his parents, David and Laura Frerking, of Waverly; brother, Alex Frerking, of Ames; sister, Maaike and Josh Gros, of Fayetteville, N.C.; and grandparents, Carl and Mary Tysseling, of Pella, and Marvin and Shirley Frerking, of Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 25, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls. Burial of cremains will be in Oak Wood Cemetery in Pella at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Waverly Public Library and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
