Loren Braun06/12/1929 - 11/30/2014Loren L. Braun passed away on Nov. 30, 2014. Loren was born on June 12, 1929 in Waseca, Minnesota. His parents were August Martin and Dora Schroeder Braun. They farmed in the Janesville area. He attended a rural, one room schoolhouse through the eighth grade. He then lived with his grandmother in Waseca in order to attend high school. In 1951 he earned a BS degree in chemistry at Mankato State Teacher's College. In 1956 he received a PhD from the University of Nebraska. He worked as a chemist for Mead Johnson in Evansville, Indiana for 1 year. He went to Idaho State University in 1957 where he had a long and enjoyable career in teaching. He served as department chair from 1983-87. He retired in 1989. Then he taught at UNR in Reno for 1 year and then at Seattle University. In 1992 he became a part-time teacher at ISU as well as doing research in medicinal chemistry. Another interest was tutoring. He began at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, AZ and continued at ISU. In 2013 he relocated to Forest Grove, OR. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Cornelius, OR.On June 4, 1952, he married Sharon C. McKee. Sharon died in May 1963. On Oct. 9, 1964, he married Donna L. Richards. He is survived by: son Dr. David M. Braun and wife Dr. Gail Mauner of Buffalo, NY, and daughters Dr. Eileen S. Braun and husband Dr. David Sherman of Washington DC, Tracey L. Rhys of Manhattan, NY, and Laurie A. Hannon and husband Greg of Hillsboro, OR, sister Carol Brown and husband Grove of Waseca, MN, and brother Lenis Braun and wife Elaine of Plymouth, MN, along with several nephews and great nephews and nieces.A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 am on Dec. 6 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1124 S. Beech Street in Cornelius, OR., with the Rev. Karl Pishaw, officiating. Interment will follow at the Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to a charity are encouraged.
