Lonnie McDaniel, age 67, died on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from congestive heart failure CMC Mercy Hospital. From his birth to his death, he nourished people around him with a smile, good times, and great soulful cooking.

Lonnie was born in Charlotte, NC to Mack and Fannie (Diggs) McDaniel. He attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and was a graduate of West Charlotte High School. Lonnie went on to join the United States Air Force, where he ranked as an Airman.

In 1970 he married his school-age sweetheart, former spouse Jacqueline Moffett. Together, they had two daughters. Later in life, he shared a loving bond with Tracey (Forston) Howie. Together, they had a daughter and two sons. Lonnie held positions with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. He began as a bus driver and then became Head Custodian at several schools. He retired from CMS in 2007. As the holidays approach us many will remember Lonnie.

Lonnie is survived by his sisters, Dianne Harris and Cathy Gray; his brothers, Willie James Diggs, Johnnie McDaniel, James Gray, Reginald Gray (Piqua Ohio), and Ronald Gray (two sisters predeceased Maxine Gray and Carolyn Gray); four children, Jacqueline (Cherylnell) McDaniel, Lonica McDaniel, Eric Forston, and Jordan Forston. Although predeceased our very own Angel Erica Forston. Thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family, Friends, and others whose lives Lonnie touched are invited to A.E. Grier and Son Funeral Home 2310 Statesville Ave, Charlotte NC 28206, from 1 pm until time of service on Saturday, November 10, 2018, to reminisce, grieve, support each other.
