Laack, Dr. LonnieDr. Lonnie L. Laack, DVM, passed away at his home in Sheboygan on Monday, September 11, 2017 with his family beside him. He was a loved member of the community and known by many. His demeanor was quiet in nature, but those familiar with him knew he communicated his care and love through his actions. Lonnie was born on January 6, 1951 in Plymouth, WI. A son to Darwin and Grace (Schultz) Laack, he grew up on their family dairy farm and attended school in Plymouth where he graduated. He then continued his education at UW-Stevens Point earning a bachelor's degree. In 1975 he joined Peace Corps and was assigned to the Philippines where he would meet his future wife, Vilma Bordamonte, a Peace Corps language instructor. After three years of service with Peace Corps he decided to pursue his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Gregorio Araneta University, graduating in 1982.Lonnie returned to Wisconsin with his wife in 1982. He began his career as an instructor at Lakeshore Technical College. In 1985 he joined the veterinary practice at the Sheboygan Animal Clinic, from which he would retire from on July 4th 2014. Lonnie was a dedicated cyclist, hiker and camper, cycling from Wisconsin to Arizona in his younger years. He continued his love for the outdoors throughout his life and took incredible enjoyment passing on his passions to his children. Lonnie was a strong advocate for outdoor community resources and was long time supporter of local Maywood Park. He was a devoted husband and father, spending quality time with his family showing them joy during countless bike rides, canoe and camping trips, and coaching his daughter's youth softball team.Lonnie is survived by his wife of 37 years, Vilma; two sons, Andrew Laack and his fiancé, Elizabeth Rand of La Crosse and Benjamin Laack of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Jennifer (Eric) Bjergaard of Minneapolis; his soon to be three grandchildren, Carson, Katrina, and baby Bjergaard; a brother, Lester Laack of Waldo; a sister Linda (Randy) Moss of Rio Hondo, Texas and a nephew, Elijah Moss. Other family members and friends further survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Laack.In accordance with his wishes, Lonnie's family will hold a private service.In preference to flowers, memorials in his name are preferred.Online condolences may be expressed at www.wittkkoppfcs.comWittkopp Funeral and Cremation Services are serving the family.Lonnie's family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Ganju and Dr. Chen along with the nursing staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic and Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
