She was born on June 20 1949, in Strathroy, ON, to Bruce and Melva Carruthers. Lois was the youngest of five sisters, Carole, Ruth, Betty, and Gail. Lois was a woman of character, strength, and intelligence who lived her life fearlessly with passion and independence. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario and earned her Certified Human Resources Professional designation from the Rothman Business School at the University of Toronto. After a lengthy career in the oil and gas industry, adventure and travel came calling. She became an expatriate, working in Doha, Qatar; Cairo, Egypt; and Herzegovina, Bosnia. She received Peacekeeping medals for her time in Bosnia. During the time she spent abroad, she travelled to Greece, experienced an African safari and enjoyed other destinations as well. Lois was always an avid skier, hiker and golfer. She really looked forward to her Friday hikes with the ROOF group, and was a charter member of the Butt Patrol lady walkers at Priddis Greens. She belonged to the Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club, where she resided, and the Red Deer Lake United Church. Upon retiring, Lois and Joe spent their winters in Arizona. Along with golfing in AZ, the ski hills of Vail, Colorado; Park City, Utah; and Lake Tahoe beckoned. Heavenly Valley was her favourite. For many years, Lois volunteered at the Priddis Greens Charity Classic, the Waste Management Open and the LPGA Founders' Cup in Phoenix. Lois drew on her faith, family, and friends for her strength and grace, and will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to be loved by her. Lois is survived by Joe; son Kent (Dorothy) Jackman and grandchildren, Abbie, Kasia, and Jake; Sisters, Ruth (Ralph) Holmes, Betty (Jim) Colborne, and Gail (Mervin) Behm. She was a cherished aunt to Jennifer and Jeffery Behm, twins Terri and Sherri Massie, Maria Massie, Scott Cameron, Michael Massie, Kim and Chris Colborne, Calvin, Darryl and Karen Holmes. She will also be missed by many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Bruce and Melva, oldest sister Carole (Doug) Cameron and nephew Mark Massie.
