Nelson, Lois J.Lois J. Nelson, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2016 surrounded by family. She was born on August 8, 1931to Selmer an Erna (Wendt) Kjos in Mahnomen, Minnesota. After graduating from Mahnomen High School she went on to earn a teaching degree from Moorhead State Teaching College. She married Douglas R. Nelson on June 7, 1958. Douglas preceded her in death in 1987. Lois spent most of her adult life as a teacher in LeSueur, MN and then in Oshkosh, WI. Throughout the years she taught physical education, short hand, typing. She ended her teaching career in the business lab at Fox Valley Technical College in Oshkosh after 28 years at the age of 75. Lois enjoyed her counted cross stitch, yearly visits to MN to see family and being an active part in her two granddaughter's lives whom she was very proud of their accomplishments. She also enjoyed her many luncheons with her closest friends. She is survived by and her memory will be cherished by her son, Erik of Neenah; her daughter, Lori (Mike) Salzer of Oshkosh; granddaughters, Claire and Carly Salzer of Oshkosh; step-grandchildren, Austin and Athena Salzer; sisters-in-law, Avis Kjos of Mahnomen and Helen Nelson Koch of Gilbert, AZ; brothers-in-law, Latta Nelson of LeSueur, MN and Joe (Eileen) Nelson of McAllen, TX. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parent-in-law, Robert and Ardus Nelson; brother, Harold Kjos; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Bob Anderson; sister-in-law, Elayne Nelson and a niece, Sharon Anderson.A celebration of Lois's life will be held at the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Edward Looney officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Eden Meadows Rehab Center and Aurora Medical Center ICU for all of the love and care they had given to Lois.
