Leroy Smith Obituary

Jan 09, 1976 - Oct 14, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Leroy Smith, Jr. "Roy" died at UC Davis Medical Center on October 14, 2016 in Sacramento, CA at the age of 40. Leroy is survived by his wife, Katheryn Smith, four children, Nathan, Garrett, Jesse, and Sara, of Live Oak, CA, brother Joseph of Live Oak, sister Rebecca Burgess of Magalia, Ca, brother Jason of Yuba City, and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins in Tennesee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Smith, Sr and Gail Francis (Turner) Smith, of Live Oak, CA. Leroy was born on January 9, 1976 in Knoxville, TN. He graduated from Live Oak High School in 1994 and went on to earn an Associates Degree from Yuba Community College, where he also worked in the Counseling Department as a Peer Counselor. Leroy married Katheryn (Dodge), his high school sweetheart, in 1995. He always said she was born for him, the two being only a day apart. After moving to Carmichael, Leroy began working for Atkinson Youth Services as a Group Home Counselor and Parent for several years before moving back to his hometown of Live Oak to serve with his wife as a foster family, then focus on raising his own four children. Leroy was an avid fisherman and set about teaching the children how to tie fishing knots, hunt for clams and crabs, and take care of their fishing equipment as they enjoyed their trips to the redwoods, the ocean, and various lakes, ponds, creeks, and rivers. His children remember him as a supportive, outgoing, fun- filled father who encouraged them to pursue their goals, always had a joke or funny video, and attended all of their sports events. Leroy never met a stranger and often had an adventure planned. He was a generous and witty individual who loved God, his children and wife, animals, and the outdoors. He was passionate about history, the Bible, and seeing his children enjoy life. He was an active member of the Victory Chapel Pentecostal Church of God and often volunteered at his wife's school of employment, the Live Oak Little League, and his children's schools and sports programs. A Celebration of Life  is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Chapel Church of God, 10615 Live Oak Blvd, Live Oak, CA 95953, with a potluck reception to follow across the street at The Spot, next to The Father's House. Pastor Tim Stewart will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Leroy's life. If you would like, please send donations or flowers to Victory Chapel at the address above. The family would like to thank all of Roy's friends and community for their prayers, love, and support during this difficult time of losing our beloved father, husband, and brother.Send Condolences to www.appealdemocrat.com
