Leroy Edward AshcraftLeroy Edward Ashcraft, 84, a World Champion Cutting Horse Trainer, a pioneer of the Cutting Horse Industry, a real cowboy, went to be with our Lord Sunday, December 11, 2016 in Decatur.Funeral is 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Hawkins Funeral Home Decatur Chapel with burial in Eakin Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hawkins Funeral Home Decatur.Rev. Alan Bates will officiate. Pallbearers include Mance Stark, Eddie Wayne Bottom, Bobby Bouget, Bruce Colclasure, Marty Bingham, Chad White and JR Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are Steven James and Rusell James.Leroy was born on December 13, 1931 to Charlie and Ruth (Gray) Ashcraft in Bolivar, Texas. He was united in marriage to Margaret Mary Sterle on June 3, 1995 in Decatur. He attended Victory Family Church in Decatur, was a member of American Quarter Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association and American Cutting Horse Association.He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Ashcraft; his brothers, Clyde and Alton Ashcraft; his sister, Annie Brucato.Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 21 years, Margaret Sterle of Decatur; his daughters, Gerry Jones of Keller, Connie Gage of Keller, Mary Ruth Ashcraft of Decatur, Sarah Jane Ashcraft of Decatur; his sons, Charlie Ashcraft of Sulphur Springs, Colton Ashcraft of Decatur; his grandchildren, Amy Rossow, Timothy Ashcraft, Michael Ashcraft, Krista Farquhar, Spencer Jones, Katherine Gage; his great grandchildren, Tiffany Ashcraft, Keegan Canada; his brother, Troy Ashcraft; his sisters, Melva Heath, Alta Jo Smith, Thelda Flanery, Marie James, Ann Taylor, Jan Hilger; his previous wife and friend, Joyce Ashcraft; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.Family request in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the:Leroy Ashcraft Memorial Scholarship fundFirst State BankP.O.
