Leo Sprangers 95, Appleton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at St. Paul Elder Care in Kaukauna. Leo was born on May 9, 1921 in the town of Woodville to John and Hattie (Peters) Sprangers. Leo proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the South Pacific and was awarded a Purple Heart along with many other medals and commendations which he displayed with pride. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60 of Kimberly for 60 years. On September 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joan Schaefer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton. The couple enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. He was a very loving and devoted husband, and took pride in caring for his wife Joan, during the final years of her illness. Leo was employed by Riverside Paper Corp for 36 years, retiring in 1983, and was proud that he never missed a day of work! He was a charter member and very faithful parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, in Appleton.Leo had a sly sense of humor and a great smile. He always took great pride in his yard and flowers, feeding and watching the birds at his many feeders, golfing and ultimately achieving a "Hole in One". He also loved the Packers and listening to his "Cubbies" on the radio.He will be sadly missed by his 4 daughters: Mary (Duane) Dunsirn, Waupaca, Jean (Tim) Pontow, Kimberly, Barb (Lee) Brockman, Appleton and Lori (Dean) Knutson, Appleton; 2 sons: Michael Sprangers, Waupaca, and Rob (Melisa) Sprangers, Menasha; daughter in law Susan Sprangers-Lison, Menasha; 14 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; 1 brother John (Millie) Sprangers, 2 sisters, Rita Trader and Marion Oudenhouven, and sister in law, Sally Sprangers. He will also be missed by Max, his favorite furry friend.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; a son Mark and a grandson Justin,Our entire family was so blessed to have Leo as our Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.We would also like to thank all the staff at Brookdale Senior Living in Appleton and St. Paul's Elder Care in Kaukauna for their kind and compassionate care."If life was a race, he made it to the finish line"A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, November 11, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, with the Rev. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park with Military Honors
