This obituary is administered by:
TRIPP, Jr., Leo Fewell Leo Fewell Tripp, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in Lawrenceville, GA. Leo, known to his family as "Sonny" while growing up, was born on June 8, 1929 in Greenwood, Mississippi to the late Leo Sr. and Mamie Tripp. He is survived by his younger sister Maudie. At age 8, Leo and his family settled in Atlanta, GA. After graduation from North Fulton High School, he served as an instructor in the Army, stationed near Nuremberg, Germany during the Korean War. After leaving the Army, Leo returned to Atlanta where he met his wife Margaret. Leo and Margaret enjoyed boating, fishing and scuba diving with their friends, especially in Panama City, Florida in the early 1960's. After working at the Haverty Furniture Company, Leo began his decades-long career as a candy and snack food salesman, starting several brokerage firms, including Southern Sales Co. from which he retired in the early 2000's. Leo and Margaret's son, Russ, was born in 1967. Leo enjoyed teaching his son how to fish, shoot guns, and play baseball and football attending and supporting his son's ballgames and practices through Russ' senior year of high school. The family relocated to Gwinnett County in 1969 where they became active members of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, joining the Harmony Sunday School class where they created cherished friendships with their classmates. In 2004, Leo welcomed his first grandchild, Brynna, who was followed by her sister, Carlyn, in 2008. Leo adored the water. He loved boats. He loved fishing. He loved scuba diving. He enjoyed the water so much that one of his favorite springtime hobbies was to sit for hours in the cool shade and hand-water his lawn, watching the spray from the hose fall on the green grass. Leo is survived by his wife, Margaret; his sister, Maudie and her husband Jimmy Bradford; his son Russ and his wife Dana Tripp; and grandchildren Brynna and Carlyn Tripp. The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in Pollard Hall at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service in the church Sanctuary at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Jim Landis officiating. The church is located at 50 Harmony Grove Rd, Lilburn, GA 30047. In lieu of flowers, that family asks that donations be made in memory of Leo F. Tripp, Jr. to the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry at www.segwinnettcoop.org or 55 Grayson Industrial Parkway, Grayson, GA 30017. Condolences may be left at www.billheadfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Bill Head Funeral Home and Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel. 770-564-2726.
