Newton- Laura Teague Huffman, 48, of Newton passed away at her residence on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 after a period of declining health. Laura was born on Wednesday, June 26, 1968 to the late David L. Teague, Jr. and Angela Hendricks Phillips. She considered her step-father, John Phillips, her special Daddy.Laura graduated Class of 1986 from Newton-Conover High School and after working years at Catawba Valley Medical Center Laura fulfilled her dream and graduated from CVCC with an Associate in Nursing. She worked at CVMC in critical care and Fairgrove Primary Health until a work accident led to her disabilities. Laura adored nursing and loved taking care of family members and others. She will be remembered as the one who could always light up the room. Her big heart, compassion, and sense of humor were her trademarks. She believed strongly in "paying it forward". Her favorite past-times were spending time at the beach with family, painting, and music. Laura always reminded us of keeping the "mustard seed" when our faith was rocked.She was preceded in death by her father, David Teague, Jr., paternal grandparents, Opal and Bud Teague; her step-father John Phillips; her maternal grandfather, Carl T. Hendricks, Jr. and her great-grandparents, Carl and Gert Hendricks and Carroll and Lorine Little. Laura is survived by her mother, Angela Phillips of Newton; her daughter, Taylor Huffman of Newton and her grandson, Kari. In addition, Laura is survived by her sisters, Jacquelyn Teague Logan (Brett) of Charlotte and their children Rachel and Jacob; Kathryn Phillips Worrell (Michael) of Murrells Inlet; Her aunts Nancy Holcomb (Stephen Pipkin) of Newton and Melissa Wike (Rodney) and nieces Sarah and Anna; her Uncles Barry Teague of Conover and Marty Teague of Statesville and their children. Her cousin Dr. Allen Hager (Karen) and their son, Evan, of Randleman survive her. Her sister Cheryl Teague and children Noniah and Jaracah of Conover survive her. Her maternal grandmother, Jacquelyn Hendricks of Newton also survives.Laura was born into, baptized, and confirmed at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Newton. She had many talents and volunteered when her health permitted. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Newton on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. with the Reverend Ryan Brakemeyer officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall. At other times, the family will be at the Hendricks home located at 602 West 6thStreet, Newton.
