Lamont R. SchreursAnkenyLaMont Raymond Schreurs passed away peacefully in the company of his loved ones at The Bridges in Ankeny on Sunday morning, Christmas day.A visitation will be held at 5 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 28 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church on 1st Street in Ankeny and a Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, December 29 at 10:30 AM, also at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart. A private family interment service will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in Maxwell, Iowa. LaMont was born on May 11, 1946 to Raymond and Muriel Schreurs in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He attended Central Lyon High School and Wayne State College in Nebraska. He later joined the United States Air Force, where he served four years as a radar technician, including a tour in Okino, Japan during the Viet Nam conflict. Upon his discharge he returned to Ankeny and married Norma Christensen on June 10, 1972 and in 1981, they were blessed with son Matthew. LaMont soon found himself building houses with his brother, Lee and they eventually started their own home building business, Schreurs Construction. He continued to use his skills for building and remodeling in the Des Moines and Ankeny communities for many years.LaMont enjoyed golfing and was a founding member of the Otter Creek Men's league as well as the Ankeny Building Association, whose philanthropic events included the community children's Christmas event held annually at the fire station. LaMont had many "silent talents" including his dry wit and great sense of humor. Unknown to most, however, was his wood carving talent. For years, he carved Santa's and horse carvings for family members and special friends. Above all, LaMont loved his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Raymond and Muriel Schreurs. He is survived by his son Matthew (Jessica), and two grandsons, Gavin and Brady and his significant other, Pam Davidson. He is also survived by his siblings, Lynn (Chris) Schreurs, Cindy (Terry) Hamilton, Lee (Mary) Schreurs, 6 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Holy Cross Cemetery, The Bridges in Ankeny, , or Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church.Online at
