Kim Lee Page Obituary

Nov 29, 1948 - Jan 09, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Kim Lee Page November 29, 1948 - November 9, 2016 Carrboro Kim Lee Page, a resident of Carrboro, died peacefully at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough on November 9, 2016 with her brother and cousin by her bedside. Kim was born on November 29, 1948, to William A. and Brettia Beck Page. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School and UNC Chapel Hill. Kim began her teaching career in Charlotte, NC in 1971. After several years there she moved to New York City where she attended the prestigious Parsons School of Art and Design. While there, she also served as a staff member of the Parsons recruitment and admissions department and was instrumental in the early years of many influential artists' careers. She returned to North Carolina when her parents' health began to decline and continued her teaching career here until her retirement in 2010. Though teaching in a number of schools in the Durham and Chapel Hill area, she was most happy teaching and working with the talented colleagues and students at the Durham School of the Arts. There she served as department chair in addition to teaching and mentoring some of the most talented young artists in North Carolina. As a talented artist herself, she had one of her pieces of art chosen by the NC Center for the Advancement of Teaching to hang in their new building when it opened in 1990. After her retirement, Kim spent her time painting and working in her yard where she created many beautiful flowerbeds using her gifted "artistic eye." Kim was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Clarice Page. She is survived by her brother, Bill Page, cousin, Susan Mann, and nephews, Bruce and Doug Page in addition to her dedicated friend, Jenny Kitzmiller. Family and friends will remember Kim as a free spirited and loving soul, an enthusiastic fan of Springsteen and Sondheim, and a talented and patient teacher. She left behind such beautiful creations of art for all of us to cherish and remember her. We will never know how deeply she influenced the beauty that we see in countless works of art created by the talents she nurtured in others along the way. To the artists she had the joy of working with and mentoring through the years, Kim would say that she was genuinely honored to be part of your journey. A service honoring the life of Kim Lee Page will be held in the chapel at Walkers Funeral Home on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill on Monday, November 14 at 4:00. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookshire Nursing Center, UNC Hospital and Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance County for the compassion and love shown to her during the last several months. In lieu of flowers, Kim would certainly appreciate an expression of her gratitude to them through a memorial contribution to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Page family. Online condolences may be entered at walkersfuneral service.com
