Kenneth "Ken" R. Beckmann, 63, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at Genesis East. A celebration of Life Service will be held at noon on Jan. 23, 2017, at the Runge Mortuary. Inurnment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Scott County Human Society and Ride with Kelly, P.O. Box 6946, Rock Island, IL 61204. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.rungemortuary.com.Ken was born on Aug. 29, 1953, in Davenport to Mortier and Lois (Wingler) Beckmann. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1971. Ken was united in marriage to Janet Welsh in Granger, Ind.: they had four children and, later, they divorced.He worked for MidAmerican Energy until he relocated in Anchorage. Ken pursued a career in Children Services as a counselor. He enjoyed this fulfilling career.Ken enjoyed fishing especially in northern Iowa, Wisconsin and Alaska. He loved outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and camping, as well as coaching football, softball and baseball of all ages. Also he enjoyed darts, boating, slots and gambling. Ken was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. He even saw the Cubs play in the World Series. Ken loved playing cards and his family called him a "Card Shark." He was an animal lover, which included all his dogs though the years. One of the most memorable roles Ken played was none other than that of Santa Clause: he spent the better part of 20 years bringing smiles to children at Christmas time.His survivors include his two sons, Robert and Matthew; daughter, Kathleen; sister, Carolyn Peterson; brother, Mark Beckmann; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Kelly Beckmann McQuate, in 2009.The family would like to express deep gratitude to the Lutheran Home and Genesis East for their loving care.
