Kearney Stephens, Sr.Norfolk - Kearney (Steve) Stephens, Sr., 97, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 at Sentara Leigh Hospital. Mr. Stephens was born on Feb. 24, 1919 in Isle of Wight County. He lived, attended school, and worked in Franklin, VA until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. On October 12, 1943, Kearney was joined in holy matrimony to Lorraine Johnson. This blessed union laid the foundation of the strong family he nurtured and loved so much. Following his military service he was employed by Virginia Electric and Power Company until his retirement in 1976 at the age of 57. Kearney was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who touched many lives. He cherished time spent with family and friends and enjoyed card games, bowling, telling jokes, and exchanging stories. He was a baseball fan and liked jazz and big band music. Kearney was a long-time and faithful member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street. His wife of 56 years, Lorraine Johnson Stephens, his son, Kearney Stephens, Jr., his parents, Julius and Trumillar Stephens, and nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Dr. Angela Stephens McIntosh and Mrs. Sonya D. Brown; eight grandchildren, Sharif Stephens, Jamal Stephens, Kalisha N. McIntosh, Nicholas S. McIntosh, Adrienne D. McIntosh, Morgan B. Brown, Taylor S. Brown, and Barry W. Brown; one sister, Mrs. Ernestine Britt; sons-in-law Mr. Jessie C. McIntosh and Dr. Barry C. Brown; sister-in law Mrs. Rosalyn J. Credle; brother-in-law Mr. J. Howard Johnson and his wife, Mrs. Fraitus Johnson; as well as a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016 at Graves Funeral Home on Church Street in Norfolk, and the family will receive visitors during a wake service beginning at 6:00 PM.
