Kathryn (Sperzel) McEvoyMANSFIELD: Kathryn (Sperzel) McEvoy, 102, of Mansfield passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home. She was born on September 23, 1915 in Mansfield. She was the daughter of the late Nick and Julia (Humn) Sperzel.Kathryn attended Mansfield City Schools. She worked as a cook in the cafeteria at Newman Elementary where she was key in starting the food service program. In addition, she cooked for Tony's Deli until the age of 83. She was a fantastic cook and baker, and her joy and love for cooking was passed down to children and grandchildren. She was actively involved with Girl Scouts for 25 years where she served as leader and troop organizer. Her highlight was taking her girl scouts camping. Kathryn was a member of the Crossroads Community Church where she loved being a greeter for 11 years up to the age of 85. She loved knitting, crocheting and quilting and she enjoyed sharing her handy work with her family. She was a very loving woman who always put everyone's needs before her own. She enjoyed family trips in her later years especially trips to Washington D.C., Las Vegas, and many national parks.Her memories will be carried on by her loving daughters, Nancy Lehman and Kathy (Tony) Morris; nine grandchildren, Richard (Pam) Kline, Carlene (Bill) Lichtenberger, Sharon (Marshall) Magee, Vicki (Mike) Finley, Stephanie (David) Griffiths, Julie (Michael) Angle, Toni Stevens, Dominic (Jennifer) Morris, and Dawn (Brandon) Hostetler; 23 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Doug Beal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Walter McEvoy; two children, Shirley Kline Beal and Virginia Baker; three sons-in-law, Gerald Baker, Eugene Lehman and Richard Kline; two brothers, Nick and Michael Sperzel; one sister, Annie Bressette; and one grandson, Thomas Kline.Family and friends are welcome to visit from 4-6pm on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Home, 98 S. Diamond Street. A funeral service officiated by her great-grandson, Rev. Chad Finley will follow at 6pm.
