KATHRYN 'KATE' BREED, 87 ELIZABETH - Kathryn "Kate" Breed, age 87, of Elizabeth, Illinois died on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Kate was born on September 25, 1925 the daughter of William and Ethel (Walters) Rayhorn inFreeport. She married Merwin "Pat" Breed on June 6, 1942 in Elizabeth. Pat died on March 12, 1983 in Galena. Kate worked for the Army Depot and Eaton Corporation for many years before retiring. After retirement, Kate drove bus for the River Ridge School District. She loved all the children that she encountered over the years as a bus driver. Kate was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth. She loved playing cards, boating on the Mississippi River with her family, and cheering for her favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. She always had hope that they would win the World Series. Kate will be dearly missed by three daughters, Donna Groner, Murt (George) Nardin and Nancy (Larry) Orndorff; seven grandchildren, Sher Abbas, Cathy (Scott) Grayson, Michael (Lori) Nardin, Paul (Jennifer DeSpain-Nardin) Nardin, Kim (Paul) Hundrieser, Nicole (Matt) Swanson and Derek Miller; thirteen great grandchildren, Lyra and James Abbas, Katie and Michael Grayson, Cheyenne and Adam Nardin, Sydney, Aidan and Brendan Nardin, Brandon and Dillon Swanson and Corgan and Cidney Miller; and one sister in-law, Carol Rayhorn. Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; one sister, Roberta ; three brothers, Bill, Harold and Kenneth Rayhorn and one grandson in-law, Brad Abbas. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 22, at the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth with Pastor Kyungsu Park officiating. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, April 21, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A memorial fund has been established in Kate's memory.
